A NEW LABORATORY FOR MKULA HOSPITAL IN TANZANIA
Access to a safe and adequate health care system makes a huge difference in people's lives. In Tanzania, a weak economy and rapidly growing population are putting pressure on hospitals to provide safe healthcare with sufficient infrastructure - including buildings, water, waste management and energy.
Mkula hospital
Since 2017, EWB-SWE has been collaborating with Mkula Hospital in Northern Tanzania to address pressing infrastructural and architectural issues and provide safe health care for the community. As the only hospital in the district, Mkula Hospital has a catchment area of approx. 204 000 people and treats 90 patients daily.
With the water supply, power supply and wastewater management already addressed, the project is now entering its third and last phase: the construction of a new and well functioning laboratory to increase the quality and quantity of patient treatment and ensure quality health care.
Constructing a new laboratory
Laboratories have an essential role in the overall healthcare quality by making sure that results are accurate and timely delivered for patients to receive the best care as quickly as possible. The construction of a new laboratory - replacing the current and insufficient one - will expand:
- the hospital's patient capacity,
- extend the types of vital analysis that can be carried out on site,
- reduce the risk of spread of diseases,
- and provide an improved and safer work environment for the hospital staff.
Our approach is holistic and involves expertise from architects, engineers and health care professionals. Join us in our goal to improve quality of healthcare for thousands of families in Tanzania!
