School tour - forbidden love
Help us carry out a tour of Sweden's schools. With your gift, we can increase the number of schools we visit. In the culture of honor, women and men have different roles. These roles are cemented in a way that is difficult to understand if you are not in that context. Knowledge about gender equality and human rights is low among adults who come from and may still live in a clan culture. What does it look like for the young people, do they understand what rights and obligations you as an individual have in Sweden? What opportunities do they have to decide for themselves over their own lives? We have a strong belief in young people and their ability to see different perspectives if only the knowledge is made available to them. We will organize workshops for young people with a material produced by GAPF in manga format to discuss the view of gender roles and seeds for change. With scenarios designed to interest young people, we see a great opportunity to strengthen awareness of their own rights and opportunities to live as they wish, but also to work with values around the culture of honor, sexuality, love and freedom. For SEK 350, we can give a student the opportunity to participate in a workshop where we guarantee that they start thinking about their own values, choices and much more.
Give away a psychological support call.
GAPF's Pela and Fadime support hotline receives calls around the clock to help support applicants exposed to honor-related violence and oppression. Anyone seeking help may be in need of professional psychological support talks, legal advice or a long-term contact with their own support person that we have trained in honor-related violence and oppression. Then we make sure he gets this. Your gift can help us provide a support applicant free of charge: psychological support calls legal advice a personal support person In 2017, we conducted over 1,900 activities for people seeking support, of which 360 were legal and psychological support calls. We work with professional lawyers and psychotherapists who perform the work pro bono, but need resources to administer, follow up and train our support persons, therefore we have put a number on the effort. For SEK 200, you contribute to a person seeking support receiving a psychological support call, legal advice or a personal support person who lends a listening ear, attends a trial or the like.
Summer camp for survivors of honor killings and oppression
Living as a young person in an honor context means a limitation in living your own life and making your own choices. This can mean, for example, that you: escorted to and from school by a male relative or forced to check on female relatives, gets his cell phone checked by a family member after school, not allowed to dress the way you want, not allowed to hang out with whoever you want, or with anyone at all after school, not allowed to have boyfriend / girlfriend, forced to marry a cousin or someone else chosen by the family, as an LGBTQ person does not dare to affirm his sexuality. GAPF wants to organize a summer camp for people, 15-23 years old, who have escaped from a destructive home environment with elements of honor violence. We offer a chance to breathe a sigh of relief and be yourself for a while. Maybe it will be the start of a life where it is their own choices that govern, rather than the family's norms and values. We hope to be able to create networks and friendships between people who have a similar story, as we know that it is isolation that makes young people choose to go back to families who oppress and abuse. By donating to our summer camp fundraiser, you contribute to young people having the opportunity to strengthen their self-esteem and perhaps even begin their journey towards a freer life. For SEK 25,000, we have the opportunity to organize a camp for 5 people in 2018.
