Support LGBTQ youth, a group that is particularly vulnerable to sexual abuse
In many countries, those who come out as LGBTQ risk being thrown out of their homes and exposed to hate crimes both in school and in society. LGBTQ youth, ie. young persons who identify as homosexuals, bisexuals, transgender people and queers are at particular risk of being exposed to violence and sexual abuse. Not because of their disposition, but because of how they are treated. Young people who do not dare to be open with their disposition often avoid seeking help or reporting crimes due to the risk of stigma and discrimination. Childhood therefore works with projects in, for example, Ukraine, where discrimination and homophobia are particularly widespread, to ensure that young LGBTQ persons receive qualitative and non-discriminatory help from school psychologists and social workers.
