Support Sepsisfonden's Research Announcement 2022
Help us double this year's contribution to Swedish sepsis research. We are investing a quarter of a million, with your help we can reach 500,000! Sepsis - the life-threatening condition that occurs when the immune system reacts incorrectly to an infection and begins to damage the body's organs - affects at least 50,000 people in Sweden annually. About 20% die. It makes sepsis as common as cancer and more deadly than heart attack. Despite the fact that it is so common and the mortality rate is so high, the Sepsis Foundation is the only actor that provides targeted funding for sepsis research. Do you want to be involved in supporting the 2022 research call? Now we make a call out - all money in this collection goes in full to this year's research grant to Swedish sepsis research. Do as our ambassador Elin - support the research In March 2019, Elin Rantatalo was severely affected by sepsis during a trip abroad in the Canary Islands. The doctors prepared the family for Elin not to survive, but against all odds she won the battle for life. But her sepsis had consequences that affected her life, both her lower legs and nine fingers had to be amputated. Life as a hairdresser ended, but Elin has with impressive power found the way back to a life full of zest for life. Read more about Elin and her story under Personal Stories at sepsisfonden.se or on her blog at femina.se.
8,000 die each year from sepsis in Sweden - it does not have to be that way!
In May 2017, the WHO adopted a sepsis resolution, in which they raise sepsis to a world health problem. They stated in this resolution that the most important factor in reducing the number of cases of sepsis, and thus mortality from the disease, is to increase awareness of this life-threatening disease state. The Sepsis Fund runs various projects to raise awareness about sepsis, aimed at both the general public and Swedish healthcare. And we have clear goals with this work. In 2015, awareness of sepsis in Sweden was 21%. In 2017, we are up to 30%. Our goal is for 50% of all Swedes to know what sepsis is before 2019. To get there we need your help! All the money you donate goes in full to our project "Increase awareness about sepsis - save lives"
